So, like Windows Server 2008 R2 is like the gay. Actually there is nothing wrong with it, other than it being Windows and for noobs. So I am very well thinking of just putting Ubuntu onto it. Which is a bit nooby, except there won't be a gui for it. (EXCEPT fawking garrysmod has no linux binaries and needs a gui???(Runs through wine) so I might be forced to, or just run it in a virtual machine).
Anyway, main reason I am thinking of Ubuntu other than something like FreeBSD is because:
A. I don't want to deal with the problems of FreeBSD daily, even though it totally is kickass, but on a machine like this where a lot of changes happen, not the best idea.
B. Ubuntu makes RAID pretty easy, though it is no different from something like Debian.
C. They stick around to pretty much the latest Linux Kernel, Debian does not (Ubuntu 9.10 is 2.6.31, Debian is 2.6.26)
D. PPA is for Ubuntu really nice
E. Ubuntu software center is kind of nice.
F. Less low level shit
So I am maybe thinking someone might be wondering how this will affect any of the game servers? Short answer is, I don't know. Obsidian doesn't have Linux binaries, so I might just like run it in a Windows virtual machine? Or just use Wine for it. I don't know how well wine will work it, and since I am banned from the obsidianconflict forums... eh.
